Storylines - Main Body

Following are some storylines and Episode list on what we see as the template for the Melbourne Ice documentary, as well as a background to our production company and some samples of our work. It is important to note that throughout the filming, storylines could develop into new areas as results, player performances and dramatic moments reveal new sub plots to work with and could possibly vary the storyline order of episodes.

  2. 10 year anniversary for the Melbourne Ice – The history
  3. Pre Season training / The team establishing its core playing group for 2012
  4. The coaching staff and their ambition for 2012 – How they will make it happen
  5. The players. An intimate, real view into the players lives. How they manage to play as professionals in a developing amateur league. The sacrifices, personally, professionally and on the ice.
  6. The Internationals – Players trying to get into the Melbourne Ice organisation.
  7. The Club President – His goals for expansion of Australian Hockey in Australia as well as internationally with European and North American leagues and affiliates.
  8. The Teams results, the highs and lows, dynamics – In depth look at the game and the consequences of every win or loss.
Episode 1. The Journey Begins

We join the Melbourne Ice at Training camp where the team for 2012 will chosen. We will meet previous heroes, introduce characters we will follow throughout the year and meet the imports who hope to secure a spot on the hottest team in Australia. We set the goals and aspirations for the year through interviews withkey members of the organisation.

We will also learn about the psyche of a player and what drives them to play the game. Setup interviews will tell us about injuries obtained and sacrifices made to play the fastest and toughest game in the world.

Framing of these interviews will be close so we can see the character in the players face.

Episode 1 will set a strong tone for the rest of the series. The action will be intense and intimate and will conclude with the selection of the team as we find out what imports have successfully made the team and who has not.

EPISODE 2. The Enforcers
Games 1 through 7 will be the basis of this episode with a special focus on the enforcers that make up the Melbourne Ice. The players that have the physical presence on the ice and aren’t afraid to let everyone know about it. They are tough, determined and have a specific tactical role within a game and sacrifice their body for it.

Through in depth interviews we will explore their role, their personalities on and off the ice and why they love hockey.

Other storylines around victories/losses for these first 5 games will also unfold to include coaches team speeches, strategies and how the team is tracking. These storylines will be weaved throughout each episode.

Episode 2 will instantly show the toughness of the game and prepare viewers for the fast paced action of that will follow in other episodes. We will look to close out this episode with the link to the guys that love the enforcers the most – the scorers

EPISODE 3. The Captain and the Scorers
Games 8 through 14 will be the basis of this episode with a special focus on the teams Captain – Vinnie Hughes, as well as the teams superstar scorers in Jason Baclig, Joey Hughes, Matt Armstrong and Tommy Powell.

Vinnie Hughes is an exciting, tough hockey player with personality and charm that will be the core of the episode. Intimate interviews with him and the other players will provide the insight into why they all do it, what they do outside of the game as well as what they want to achieve within the game. It will also be important to capture their opinions on the league, the Melbourne Ice organisation and the fans that follow them.

This episode will push the skill level in the game and capture it close enough that viewers will feel every shot, pass, hit and goal. It will provide the elation of scoring as well as the pressures of a slump and how each players deals with adversity in the game. The episode will conclude with the next scorers and the men they hope to beat every game – the goaltenders.

EPISODE 4. The Psyche of a Goaltender
Games 15 through 21 will be the basis of this episode with a special focus on the goaltenders. What makes up a goaltender? Who they are as people on and off the ice, as well as training and in-game pressures.

The episode will include a goaltender being mic’d up for a number of games to capture how they feel on the ice.

The intensity in Episode 4 will be driven by the goaltending pressures as the fans, players and organisation put them in the firing line to win and will conclude with a lead into Episode 5.

EPISODE 5. The President , the club and the fans
Games 22 though 28 will be the basis of this episode with a special focus on the Melbourne Ice President, Andy Lamrock. Andy will give us a colourful background on the ice, what it has taken to get the Ice to this level, his vision for the team as well as the people that make up the organization – including the strong fanbase that are some of the most passionate in the country.

Andy will also share his goals for the expansion of his team as well as the league into North America, Europe and Asia, as well as revealing a special affiliation with an NHL (National Hockey League – Canada and USA) team in the USA.

EPISODE 6. The Cup
The final episodes will bring us all the action of finals weekend.

Coverage will take in all the action of the sudden death finals from the perspectives of all participating teams and possibly the Melbourne Ice watching from the stands. The episode will continue the ‘up close and personal’ treatment of the series and not hold back as the intensity of finals becomes the obsession for players and coaches. Unrelenting, unrehearsed and uncensored – not matter what the result.

We will be in both locker rooms for a unique perspective that will be the backdrop to the action on the ice and conclude with the winning team hoisting the cup. Will it be the Melbourne Ice?
